The Project

As one of LEDFlex's early US retail installations, the programme reflects the growing convergence of lighting, wellness-focused retail, and contemporary lifestyle brands. Across the three locations, it demonstrates how integrated lighting can hold a portfolio together while responding to the character of each store. Through precision, continuity, and careful integration, light becomes part of Varley's architectural identity rather than a separate visual layer.

A consistent, embedded lighting language across Varley's Boston, Madison Avenue, and SoHo stores, developed with Match Lighting Design and built on LEDFlex Nano Flex.

Varley has built one of contemporary athleisure's most recognisable identities on a single principle: performance, comfort, and understated sophistication, held in balance. Across its stores in Boston, Madison Avenue, and SoHo, that ethos extends to the lighting, conceived not as a decorative layer but as an integrated architectural element that serves the customer through restraint rather than spectacle.

Developed with Match Lighting Design, the scheme forgoes overt fixtures in favour of illumination embedded within the retail joinery. Light is woven through the cabinetry itself, shaping how garments are seen while preserving the calm the brand depends on. Architecture, materials, and merchandise stay in the foreground; the source recedes.

At its centre is LEDFlex Nano Flex 240, specified at 2700K and integrated into wardrobe displays, shelving, pull-out storage, and fitting-room joinery. Its 4mm PCB allowed concealment within narrow joinery details that conventional linear products could not accommodate. Paired with LEDFlex Flex Profiles and Flex Power Drivers, it formed a complete system; consistent in appearance, reliable in performance, and straightforward to install across a range of bespoke applications. More than 120 metres were supplied in project-specific lengths, allowing a precise fit to varying joinery dimensions while maintaining continuity throughout each space.

The calibration favours the product, not the fixture. Uniform vertical illumination improves visibility and renders colour, texture, and material faithfully, producing a retail experience that reads as effortless precisely because the engineering behind it is invisible.
